Better suffer, than regret...

Hardships: Life Doesn’t Ask… It Just Hands You the Weight

No one in their right mind asks for hardships—unless you work at the circus or you’re Tom Cruise (but even that’s different). I’m trying to say that most of the time, they come uninvited. No knocks, no politeness; it’s a straight kick down the door—just like a SWAT team.

Hardship strips you of the small comforts—often taken for granted. It leaves you exposed, raw, and questioning every belief you had about fairness, faith, and even your own worth—and that both sucks and opens your eyes (if you care to pay attention).

While suffering, life becomes a series of harsh truths—the same ones you escaped from for so long. That’s the cold reality of paying all the bills neglected, the many appointments that you didn’t have time for, and the mundane necessities that continue while you’re left grieving in silence. No grand ceremony to mark the moments when you simply manage to keep breathing—quite the opposite… It’s lonely and disturbing, but we all get what we deserve, right?

Nevertheless, in the darkest hours, something quietly miraculous happens—but again, you gotta pay attention. And if you do, you begin to notice that despite everything, you’re still standing—perhaps better than ever. In all this suffering and struggles, you start to learn who you truly are when stripped of every pretence and comfort.

Now, this is not the noble suffering romanticised in storybooks; this one’s uncompromising, and often brutal—sometimes too much. But in all that, there is a new kind of strength forged—a strength not measured by success, but by the inner resilience… most importantly by your evolving philosophy.

Hardship teaches you the value of honesty—the deep honesty with yourself and with those around you (or at least it should). It reveals what truly matters—it always does. When all the superficial layers are peeled away, what remains is the most raw version of your spirit: unfiltered, unyielding, and deeply real.

Just then—again, I hope—you begin to understand that the weight life hands you isn’t an endless burden; it is a guide pointing you, however painfully, to the truths you were too afraid to face before.

One day, far down the road, you will meet someone else drowning in despair—and you will recognise in their eyes the same fierce determination that kept you going (or at least that’s what happens at the end of the movies).

Hardship leaves behind not weakness, but the wisdom of lived experience—but don’t forget: you have to look for it.

It carves out a space in your heart and bones, and every other part of you where empathy, understanding, and compassion flourish are the brakes that save you from the wreckage.

So, when life doesn’t ask and hands you the weight without warning, remember: nothing is forever. Each step, no matter if you limp or crawl or… (you get the idea), is you refusing to be snuffed out.

Embrace the pain for the clarity it brings, and let it forge you into someone who not only survives but thrives in the face of life’s relentless challenges.

When life gives you lemons, you make lemonade; when it gives you hardships, you forge a “katana”.

Still here and keep going,
